40th Annual Conference of the National Association of Regional Councils

At the 40th Annual Conference of the National Association of Regional Councils, the Central Texas Council of Governments (CTCOG) received the 2007 National Achievement Award for Regional Cooperation, Coordination and Excellence for its establishment of the Central Texas Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC). Consideration for the award was based on the following criteria:
Significance of the project in promoting and exemplifying regional cooperation and coordination;
Significance of the project in promoting and exemplifying regional excellence;
Innovation in concept and approach;
Impact of the project on the region;
Involvement of the private and civic sectors; and
Originality, replicability, and quality of the project
In October 2006, the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) awarded CTCOG one of three grants to pilot the ADRC project. The ADRC has co-located staff from the following agencies to streamline access to public and private services and supports:
• Area Agency on Aging
• Central Counties Center for Mental Health/Mental Retardation
• Children with Special Needs Network
• Department of Aging and Disability Services
• Heart of Central Texas Independent Living Center
• 2-1-1 Area Information Center
• Hill Country Community Action Association, Inc.
The Central Texas ADRC serves as the region’s highly visible, trusted and valued place to which persons of all ages and incomes can turn for information and assistance on the full range of long-term support options, as well to access other state programs and benefits. Such state programs include Children’s Health Insurance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medicaid, and Food Stamps.
